Thriving as a Young Contributor to a Prosperous China
The report of the 20th National Congress of the CPC expressed the expectation for contemporary Chinese youths, which says “A nation will prosper only when its young people thrive.” I’d like to discuss how we, as young Chinese citizens, make great accomplishments during the era when China is in the process of constructing a modernized socialist country in all aspects, and play a significant role in this process.
One of the most crucial factors of self-value realization lies in swimming with the tide. We, without exception, live in a period that has its own features, and one can hardly succeed without going with the flow. Take present China for example. It is by no means as underdeveloped in the Internet as it once was. Instead, China is taking the lead, as evidenced by TikTok, Alipay, WeChat, Tencent, and even metaverse. Under this circumstance, it is strongly advised that the young should seize the opportunities offered by the well-developed Internet industry to make a difference. Many young people have made their mark through TikTok, including Li Jiaqi, Li Ziqi, Zhouzhou, Dong Yuhui and so on. Were it not for making full use of the Internet, an iconic feature of today’s China, these well-known young people may still go unnoticed.
Apart from having a sharp insight into current trends, young people in China, which is on the path to a modernized socialist country, are supposed to possess a quality of commitment to the community. China is a state of the people, by the people, and for the people. It determines that the more committed a young person is to society, the more likely he or she makes it. Young people might as well consider working as teachers, doctors, public servants, agricultural experts, and so on to commit themselves to the progress in China’s rural areas. Those who launch their careers in less developed regions can easily gain support from the government because the Chinese government aims to bridge the divide across areas. That’s why Zhang Tongxue and Miao A-Mei, both alias names, who have received considerable assistance from local authorities made great success in leading local villagers toward common prosperity by promoting agricultural products.
Last but not least, young Chinese people in this remarkable time have global visions. All the way along, the Community Party of China has been insisting on an opening-up policy, typically represented by the revival of the ancient Silk Road. Although anti-globalization is on the rise in some parts of the world, China stands for building a community with a shared future for mankind. It turns out that no one can turn the clock back, and China is on the right track. Not long ago, on the 14th of November 2022, Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden met on Bali Island to talk through global issues. It sent a clear signal to Chinese youths that if we desire to score achievements, we’d better equip ourselves with proficiency in foreign languages, an open mindset, and the willingness to communicate with the outside world. Quite a few young overseas students from China are carving their careers in other countries. A young female Chinese zither performer Peng Jingxuan received much attention by playing a Chinese classical musical instrument on the pedestrian streets in Paris, France.
In conclusion, only by seizing the momentum, devoting ourselves to the people, and cultivating an international outlook can we thrive as young contributors to a prosperous China.
