“講述中國”英語寫作大賽由中國外文局CATTI項目管理中心、中國外文界主辦，大賽旨在為更好推動中華文化走出去，鼓勵用外語講述中國故事，通過賽事選拔更多優(yōu)秀人才，全面提升當(dāng)代大學(xué)生等各類群體的英語寫作能力和素養(yǎng)，培養(yǎng)和發(fā)現(xiàn)優(yōu)秀的英語寫作人才，向世界闡釋推介更多具有中國特色、體現(xiàn)中國精神、蘊藏中國智慧的優(yōu)秀文化。

Promising Youth, Prosperous China
As economic globalization and technological modernization develop by leaps and bounds, China’s economy has flourished and the quality of people’s lives in our society has improved significantly. Also, this year marks the opening of the 20th CPC National Congress, which symbolizes that we embark on a new journey towards the second century goal of building a modern socialist country. To further consolidate the achievements and pave the way for future development, it’s our responsibility and mission to interlink our aspirations with the future of our nation and dedicate ourselves to the development of our society and country.
To commence with, we young people ought to improve our capability and experience through constant learning and hands-on practice. It is universally acknowledged that life is finite, but knowledge is infinite. Consequently, young people should continue to improve theoretical knowledge and professional skills in line with the development of the times and the requirements of our future careers, so as to give full play to our talent for realizing the Chinese dream. Additionally, learning ability and creativity are the driving forces of the continuous progress of individuals and society. With good learning ability and creativity, we can constantly acquire the knowledge and skills required and blaze new trails in our fields. What’s more, there is no denying the fact that practice is the sole criterion for testing truth, which reminds us that the young are supposed to participate in social practice and cultivate hands-on ability and cooperation skills. It is worth mentioning that there is an ascending trend that college students take advantage of theoretical knowledge and advanced technology to utilize big data and artificial intelligence to promote the development of modern agriculture. Owing to their attempts, “agricultural environmental monitoring technology” has been invented and introduced to integrate agricultural ecological environment and information technology to develop digital and smart agriculture.
In addition, it is high time that we dedicate ourselves to national undertakings and epoch development. Nowadays, our nation is undergoing unprecedented changes, which are not limited to a single moment, or a specific area, but are profound and broad changes of times. In the face of challenges, young people are supposed to shoulder their responsibilities to cope with arduous tasks. For instance, some young people actively take part in the construction of remote rural areas to achieve common prosperity. After graduation, Huang Wenxiu gave up job opportunities in big cities and resolutely returned to her hometown, devoting herself to the front line of poverty alleviation. Thanks to her contribution, most of the 103 poverty-stricken households in the village got rid of poverty successfully. Furthermore, it is never too late to participate in voluntary services such as the fighting and prevention of the COVID-19 pandemic. Only when we unite as one and actively get involved in the battle voluntarily can we defeat the pandemic.
Last but certainly not least, as the youth of the new era, we ought to closely interlink our fates with our motherland and strive for a promising future. From my perspective, we are supposed to forge ahead with struggle and be innovative constantly both in mindset and capability, thus equipping us with relevant strength and qualifications to fulfill our ambitions. A quintessential example should be cited that Gu Ailing, in addition to being a ski genius, is also an excellent student. Not only did she win three gold medals for China in women’s big jump freestyle skiing in the Winter Olympic Games, but she also graduated from high school ahead of schedule with persistent efforts and got into Stanford University with high grades. She is definitely a role model we younger generation respect and admire. Inspired by her, I reckon that not only should we tap our potential into full play and translate the learned knowledge into abilities, but we also ought to interlink our destiny with our society and country so as to win glory for our country and make great contributions to the all-around development of our country.
Liang Qichao, the renowned Chinese intellectual leader and social reformer, said over one century ago: “Youth’s wisdom renders our country wise; youth’s wealth renders our country rich; youth’s strength renders our country powerful.” China’s future lies in the youth. Only when we endeavor to integrate our aspirations and the fulfillment of personal value with the great cause of the rejuvenation of China can we live a meaningful life and have a more promising future.
