Gather the Fire of Youth and Ignite the Light of Our Time
President Xi Jinping pointed out in the report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, “You should steadfastly follow the Party and its guidance, aim high but stay grounded, and dare to think big and take action but make sure you can deliver. You should strive to be the new era’s great young generation, a generation with ideals, a sense of responsibility, grit, and dedication. As you endeavor to build China into a modern socialist country in all respects, your youth and vitality will bloom in full splendor.” The National Congress has finished, but its spirit and requirements will always guide youngsters toward a better future. What requirements were put forward to realize our ideals and socialist modernization during this year’s National Congress?
Young people must first set up ambitions and aspirations, measure their strengths, and be determined to contribute to the country and the people. For this reason, they must choose their goals and study and practice hard. First, Chinese youths in the new era must set up lofty ideals. Without ideals, it will lead to mental calcium deficiency. As young people in the new era, we should integrate our ideals with the realization of socialist modernization, and integrate our ambitions with the nation’s goals. Second, young people in the new era should love their motherland and shoulder the responsibilities of the times. Patriots in ancient and contemporary China have left poems and words that are still remembered by us today, such as Lu You’s “Whatever my status, I will never lay aside my concern for the nation,” Yue Fei’s “Valiantly we’d cut off each head; Laughing, we’d drink the blood they shed,” Qi Jiguang’s “After ten years of fighting against the enemies in the sea, here I am staring at the direction of the imperial palace all alone,” and Sun Yat-sen’s “Our generation shall take the responsibility of boosting China’s reform and development no matter what happens. We shall never give up hope as long as we are still alive.” It is in this spirit that they have accomplished remarkable achievements. Chinese youth in the new era must be brave to forge ahead with dedication and fortitude, as there will be no fragrant plum blossoms without freezing cold weather. There are no easy ways to make our ideals come true. Young people should keep in mind that empty talk harms the country, while practical action helps it thrive. We must start from scratch to work hard, fulfill our duties, and create wonderful lives with our own hands. We must have the courage to take risks, start businesses, and break new ground in the process of reform and opening up, and constantly expand our horizons for career development. We must also try all means to cope with difficulties ahead and strive to play our part in the national cause of innovation and creation.
A country cannot thrive without a strong young generation. Young people in contemporary China are living in a great time with a broad stage to display their talents and bright prospects to realize their dreams. Taking youth-related work as a strategic task, the Party has made efforts to arm youngsters with science-based theories and inspire them with its original mission. As for us, we should follow the leadership of the Communist Party of China and walk on the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics. I believe that under the strong leadership of the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core and with the unremitting efforts of young people in the new era, the goals of achieving high-quality development, developing whole-process people’s democracy, enriching the people’s cultural life, achieving common prosperity for all people, promoting the harmonious coexistence between man and nature, building a community with a shared future for mankind, and creating a new form of human civilization will be achieved. I also believe that China will embrace a better future, and the youth in the new era will be more resilient.
Facing the opportunities of the times, each generation has a long way to go to fulfill its mission. Young people in the new era are not afraid of failure because they have the courage to start all over again and the will to tide over difficulties. As they are starting to should greater responsibilities, I believe China will become better and stronger in the future.
