英語寫作大賽由中國外文局CATTI項目管理中心、中國外文界主辦，大賽旨在為更好推動中華文化走出去，鼓勵用外語講述中國故事，通過賽事選拔更多優(yōu)秀人才，全面提升當(dāng)代大學(xué)生等各類群體的英語寫作能力和素養(yǎng)，培養(yǎng)和發(fā)現(xiàn)優(yōu)秀的英語寫作人才，向世界闡釋推介更多具有中國特色、體現(xiàn)中國精神、蘊(yùn)藏中國智慧的優(yōu)秀文化。

New Era, New Goal, New Journey
The past decade was marked by three significant events with profound meanings: the centenary celebration of the Communist Party of China; the new era of socialism with Chinese characteristics; poverty eradication and the building of a moderately prosperous society in all respects. Considerable improvements have been experienced in our economy, politics, culture, science, technology, and education.
China in 2049 will be a much better country with over 1.4 billion people having completed socialist modernization on all fronts. The future blueprint depicts a revitalized nation with happy people, political integrity, economic growth, cultural progress, and social stability.
Our economic strength will take a further historic leap. It is well known that a robust economy is the foundation of a powerful and stable country. In the past decade, China has remained the world’s second-largest economy. At the Cross-Strait Youth Summit, Lin Yifu of Peking University said, “China’s economy will be twice that of the US’s by 2049.” The rapid development of the Internet of Things and the digital economy will facilitate the international competitiveness of our industries. Through joint efforts, we will further improve the socialist market economy and put new systems in place for an open economy at a higher level. In this way, we will achieve common prosperity for all.
The extensive, profound, and long-lasting Chinese culture will cast new glories for the communist culture. Civility throughout society will be enhanced by the civil morality campaign, which aims to carry forward traditional Chinese virtues, foster stronger family ties, values, and traditions, and raise the intellectual and moral standards of youngsters. We will stay firmly rooted in the Chinese culture, gather and refine its defining symbols and best elements, and present them to the world. We will accelerate the development of China’s discourse and narrative systems, tell Chinese stories more effectively, amplify China’s voice, and offer a credible, appealing, and respectable image of China.
We will fully implement the strategy of invigorating China through science and education, the workforce development strategy, and the innovation-driven development strategy. Those youngsters in remote areas can also enjoy the same right to education and well-equipped learning facilities to better build our motherland. It will bring together the best and the brightest from all fields for the cause of the Party and the people. This will allow us to train first-class innovative talents and attract the brightest minds from all over the world. Cultivating a workforce of high-quality skills with both ethics and professional competence is critical to the long-term development of China and the Chinese nation.
Nature provides the necessary conditions for human survival and development. In all aspects of China’s transformation into a modern socialist nation, we must respect and protect nature. We will uphold the principle that lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets and maintain harmony between humanity and nature when making development plans. China will adhere to the concept of green development and strive to achieve carbon neutrality in the middle of the 21st century through emission reduction, recycling, and clean energy. We will advance the Beautiful China Initiative and adopt a holistic and systematic approach to preserving mountains, waters, forests, farmlands, grasslands, and deserts.
The future belongs to youths, and hope is pined on them. Nowadays, Chinese youths are living in a remarkable era. We have an incomparably broad stage to display our full talents, and incomparably bright prospects of realizing our dreams. The baton has been passed to us to achieve the second Centenary Goal. In the meantime, Chairman Xi Jinping has high expectations for youths and said you should steadfastly follow the Party and its guidance, aim high but stay grounded, act but make sure you can deliver. You should strive to be the new era’s great young generation, a generation with ideals, a sense of responsibility, grit, and dedication. As you endeavor to build China into a modern socialist country in all respects, your youth and vitality will bloom in full splendor.
