Past Decade, Stronger China
The past decade has witnessed China overcoming all kinds of difficulties and leading its people to happiness amid ups and downs. Since the 18th Party Congress, the Party’s Central Committee, with Comrade Xi at its core, has united and led people of all ethnic groups to launch a series of initiatives and promote transformative practices, achieving significant breakthroughs and remarkable achievements in all aspects in economy, culture, science, and technology.
The past decade has witnessed China’s economic strength leaping to new heights, thus transforming every aspect of people’s daily life in clothing, food, housing, transportation, consumption, and entertainment. With China’s GDP per capita increased significantly, people have achieved all-round improvement in their lives, and 98.99 million rural poor people have been lifted out of poverty. Meanwhile, new technologies such as big data, artificial intelligence, 5G, cloud computing, and block chain have continued to advance and become part of people’s daily life. In addition, China has advanced the construction of 21 pilot free trade zones and cooperated with 149 countries and 32 international organizations to build the “Belt and Road” after signing cooperation documents and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP). All these have shown that China is opening its door wider to the outside world, and its economic development will reach a new level.
The past decade has witnessed significant changes in China’s science and technology innovation historically and holistically, with China’s global innovation index ranking rising from 34th to 12th, thus becoming an innovative country. Chang’e 5’s mission, the most complex and sophisticated space project in China was successful launched, which is of great significance to China in upgrading space technology, improving the lunar exploration system and carrying out lunar scientific research, as well as organizing lunar and interplanetary exploration missions that will follow. What’s more, the launch of the 55th satellite of the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System, the exploration of the unmanned submersible Haidou-1, and the expedition of Fendouzhe represent the unprecedented level of scientific and technological innovation in China.
The past decade has witnessed a significant improvement in China’s international status and influence. Now, as the world’s largest and most powerful developing country in terms of comprehensive strength, China’s status in the international arena has continued to improve and its influence in international affairs has grown, making it an important player on the international stage. China has actively shouldered its responsibilities as a great power, firmly upheld the basic norms of international relations with the rules and principles of the UN Charter as its cornerstone, and played an active role in maintaining international peace and security. In particular, since the 18th Party Congress, China has actively implemented the Belt and Road Initiative to promote win-win cooperation among countries and regions. Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic in 2020, China has shared its experience with the rest of the world and provided a large amount of anti-epidemic supplies and vaccines.
Undoubtedly, China has gained significant achievements in all aspects over the past decade. It is not a long time, but people will never forget what has been achieved during that period. Nowadays, as the major changes never seen in a century intertwine with the global pandemic, we are now facing new economic and social development issues. However, we have come to a significant development period when opportunities outweigh challenges. Thanks to the institutional advantages of socialism with Chinese characteristics, the solid cornerstone laid by economic and social development since the reform and opening up, and successful experiences, we have full confidence and determination to move China towards a better future.
