Message by UN Secretary-General António Guterres on World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought

Excellencies, friends.
各位閣下，朋友們，
We depend on land for our survival. Yet we treat it like dirt.
我們依靠土地生存，但我們卻視之如糞土。
Unsustainable farming is eroding soil 100 times faster than natural process can restore them.
不可持續(xù)的耕作正以比土壤自然恢復(fù)過(guò)程快100倍的速度侵蝕著土壤。
And up to 40% of our planet’s land is now degraded:
地球上40%的土地已經(jīng)退化：
Imperiling food production;
危及糧食生產(chǎn)，
Threatening biodiversity;
威脅生物多樣性，
And compounding the climate crisis.
并加劇氣候危機(jī)。
This hits women and girls the hardest.
這對(duì)婦女和女童的沖擊最大。
They suffer disproportionately from the lack of food, water scarcity, and forced migration that result from our mistreatment of land.
對(duì)土地的不當(dāng)使用導(dǎo)致糧食短缺、水資源短缺和被迫移民，婦女和女童受到尤為嚴(yán)重的影響。
Yet they have the least control.
但她們擁有的控制權(quán)卻最少。
In many countries, laws and practices block women and girls from owning land.
在許多國(guó)家，法律和慣例阻止婦女和女童擁有土地。
But where they do, they restore and protect it: increasing productivity; building resilience to drought and investing in health, education and nutrition.
但在婦女和女童擁有土地的國(guó)家，她們會(huì)修復(fù)和保護(hù)土地：提高生產(chǎn)力，建設(shè)抗旱能力，投資于衛(wèi)生、教育和營(yíng)養(yǎng)。
Equal land rights both protect land and advance gender equality.
平等的土地權(quán)既保護(hù)土地，又促進(jìn)性別平等。
That is why this Desertification and Drought Day puts the focus on “her land, her rights”.
正因如此，今年的防治荒漠化和干旱世界日聚焦“她的土地，她的權(quán)利”。
I urge all governments to eliminate legal barriers to women owning land, and to involve them in policymaking.
我敦促各國(guó)政府消除阻礙婦女擁有土地的法律障礙，讓她們參與決策。
Support women and girls to play their part in protecting our most precious resource.
支持婦女和女童在保護(hù)我們最寶貴的資源方面發(fā)揮作用。
And together, let’s stop land degradation by 2030.
讓我們攜手努力，到2030年阻止土地退化。
